Do’s and Don'ts for Using Instagram for Business

There’s no question that having a social media presence can greatly increase your exposure and help drive customers to your business. It can also be overwhelming if you’re a new business and don’t know how to use all the features Instagram has to offer.

Here is a simple checklist of what you should and should not do if you’re using Instagram to grow your business.

Don’t buy bots to “like” posts or engage with other people’s content. It just feels spammy and people know when there’s a robot behind the account.

Instead connect with your audience and consistently provide value by sharing testimonials, the features of your product or service and the transformation your product or service will bring.

Don’t hide behind your feed. People want to see the face behind the brand. This will help you connect with your audience.

Don’t use hashtags that have over 500k posts. When you choose very popular hashtags for your posts, the chances of people finding your account are very low. Instead, use hashtags that have less than 500k to reach your audience.

Don’t cold pitch in the DMs. People do not like cold sales and by trying to sell to someone you’ve never “met” will less than likely result in a sale.
