What do you think of when you hear the word, “productive?”

Does it mean getting more done in less time? Outsourcing? Improving your business processes?

No matter how you view productivity, being productive can help improve your business.

Below you’ll find top tips to help you be more productive in your business:

1)     Take frequent breaks. A popular technique is the Pomodoro technique in which you set a countdown timer for 25 minutes and work on one specific task. After the 25 minutes is over, you take a 5-minute break to check your phone, drink some coffee or stretch. After you have done four 25-minute work sessions, have a longer 15 – 30 minutes in between. Doing this help reduce the likelihood of being distracted and trains your brain to focus for shorter periods of time. (If you’re a mom with littles ones at home, this may be a challenge to do.)

2)     Do your hardest tasks first thing in the morning. Not only will it help to get the hardest task finished over with, but it also helps build momentum for the day.

3)     Be proactive vs reactive. Being reactive means responding to unanticipated events right after it occurs. For example, answering emails and texts right after you receive them. Being proactive means, you set aside specific times throughout the day to response to these things. By being proactive, you are setting yourself up for success when it comes to time management, decision making and improving your focus.

4)     Practice self-care. When you take care of yourself first, it helps reduce stress levels and can improve productivity.

5)     Set boundaries. Make sure your clients know your business hours and when they can expect a response from you. The key is to not break your boundaries. Once you break a boundary once, your client will expect you to break your boundary again.
